Finding new ways to bring nutritious and delicious food to pupils and students across every corner of the UK is at the heart of everything we do at Chartwells. That’s why, with the support of Compass Cymru, part of Compass Group UK & Ireland, we’re proud to have embarked upon a five-year partnership with Anglesey County Council.
As part of our contract with Anglesey County Council, we’ll be responsible for delivering nourishing food to more than 9,500 pupils across 39 primary schools, five secondary schools, and one special education needs school. We currently deliver catering solutions to around 2,000 schools across the country and are pleased to bring our passion for health and wellbeing to pupils and students in Anglesey.
On our partnership, Anglesey’s Education Portfolio Holder, Councillor Meirion Jones, commented:
“We are pleased to award the contract to Chartwells following a lengthy and robust competitive tender process. The evaluation panel was made up of Council officers, head teachers and an independent catering consultant. This is an important new contract which will ensure that our pupils and staff continue to receive a healthy and wholesome school meal.”
This September, we launched new menus for our primary school pupils in Anglesey, offering a selection of nutritionally beneficial and sustainably prepared dishes that we know they’ll love, including a mid-week roast dinner.
We’ve also launched Chef Allegra’s Tuesday Takeovers, our initiative designed to introduce Anglesey's primary school pupils to exciting new flavours, textures and ingredients once a week.
By retendering the contract, Anglesey County Council were able to make significant financial savings, with some of it used to subsidise primary school meals. As of 1st September 2021, primary school pupils in Anglesey can enjoy a freshly prepared school lunch for £2.20, equating to a reduced price of 30p per meal
Commenting on this, Chartwells Managing Director, Charlie Brown, said:
"We are delighted to be working with Anglesey County Council to deliver school meals to the children of Anglesey. We are passionate that every child has access to nutritious food. We welcome the Council's decision to subsidise the school meal offer, enabling many more families to access school lunches.
We work hard to provide value for money and will also be supporting schools with access to information on nutrition and healthy eating, through lessons and demonstrations with our culinary teams, as well as additional learning materials."
